William was likely born in 1793 in Hilperton Marsh, Wiltshire. He was christened at St Pauls in Staverton on the 5th of January 1794. His parents looking at the evidence were most likely William Hudd and Wilhilmina Moody. The couple were married at St James Church in Trowbridge on the 20th of September 1792. Looking at local births which fit the dates of the marriage there may also be two other sons named George Moody Hudd, christened on the 28th of February 1819 at St Pauls, Staverton and Thomas Moody Hudd, christened on the 20th of August 1820.

William married Elizabeth Applegate on the 26th of August 1819 at St James Church in Trowbridge. Elizabeth was the first daughter to James and Jane Applegate, who was born on the 22nd of April 1796.

The family went on to have a flourishing Floristry which was originally located on Union Street in

Trowbridge until they moved location of the shop to make way for the St James Hall that stands where it was today. The shop was moved to Silver Street and was kept running until its last owners around 1970. It's location was where Silver Street Newsagents is located now. The produce they sold at the shop was sourced from the families land they owned in Hilperton Marsh where they also lived too.

William and Elizabeth had seven children born between 1820 and 1834. They were Thomas, George, Jane, Emma, James, Ellen and Emily. William and Elizabeth had all but Thomas baptised on the same day on the 16th of March 1837 at the Hilperton Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. It becomes apparent that the family become very strict Methodists through the generations.

William died on the 13th of May 1837, two months after the childrens baptisms. Elizabeth remarried in 1854 to James Hooper who William described in his will as his best friend. Elizabeth died on the 22nd of November 1868. William and Elizabeth are both buried together at St Pauls Church in Staverton. Also in the same burial plot is there son James who sadly died aged 7 on the 13th of June 1837, a month after his father. This may suggest there was illness in the family at this time which was life freatening. William and Elizabeths first son, Thomas and his wife are also both buried in the same burial plot.

Elizabeth Hudd's burial record. The record shows that she was recorded as Hooper from her second marriage, but she chose to be named as Hudd and buried with William, her first husband.
